Star Bright announces auditions for production

    HOULTON — The Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre will be holding auditions for its production of “An Allagash Haunting”, based on the book by local author Tim Caverly. This production has a limited number of roles and will be produced in addition to the Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre’s regular production planned for the Spring of 2011.
    “An Allagash Haunting”, the second in a series of children’s books set in the Allagash region of northern Maine, tells the story of ten-year-old Olivia who, while on a canoe trip in the Allagash with her parents, meets with an unexpected visitor. The book is being adapted into a stage production by author Tim Caverly and the Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre and will be directed by Barbara Hogan, assisted by Ann Barnes and Susan McMann. The Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre will be presenting the play for the first time in Houlton on April 30th and May 1st, 2011 and again in Millinocket on May 7th.
    “An Allagash Haunting” includes speaking parts for 5 to 9 actors and a chorus of 10 to 12 singers, who will also double as characters be in some scenes.  The chorus is an integral part of the play. These parts are recommended for students in grades 4 through 12 There are roles in the play for some older students.
Children who are selected to perform in the play must be prepared to present two performances in Houlton, April 30 and May 1 and one in Millinocket, May 7, as well as attend rehearsals.
    Auditions for the speaking parts will be held on Tuesday December 7, 2010 from 2:45 to 5:00pm at the Court Street Baptist Church in Houlton.
    Auditions for the chorus will be held on Wednesday December 8, 2010 from 2:45 to 4:30pm at the Court Street Baptist Church in Houlton.
    Students can participate in both auditions or just one if they definitely are interested in only a speaking part or being in the chorus.
    Although this project has a smaller cast that usual, there will be another opportunity for all interested students grades 2 through 12 and members of Star Bright Drama Club to participate in Houlton Star Bright Children’s Theatre’s regular annual production.
