MPG reports positive financials

PRESQUE ISLE — Maine Potato Growers, Inc. President & CEO Pierre Patenaude announced during the company’s 78th annual meeting, held on Oct. 28, 2010 at the Northeastland Hotel, that MPG had a strong fiscal year, ending March 2010.

“The solid results obtained in 2010 were supported by the implementation of a number of improvement initiatives, along with strong performances from our diverse divisions,” said Patenaude.

Patenaude indicated that MPG remains focused on improving and growing its core businesses.

“As we continue to implement improvement initiatives, we will strengthen MPG, allowing us to efficiently provide value products, services and marketing to all of our customers,” he said.

MPG is a resilient organization with strong and loyal members and employees.

“The success we obtained in 2010 is a direct result of efforts from all that work at MPG and the loyal support and commitment received from our membership and the community,” added Patenaude.

Chairman Greg Smith of Presque Isle announced, after a vote by members present and by proxy, that he along with Jeff Smith of Mapleton and Ward McLaughlin of Mars Hill were re-elected to the Board of Directors to three-year terms. Others currently serving on the Board of Directors are: Ned Berce of St. Agatha, Bruce Buck  of Mapleton, Dominic LaJoie of Van Buren, Darrell McCrum of Mars Hill, Keith Doyen of Mapleton, Andrew McGlinn of Presque Isle and David Dorsey of Fort Fairfield.

Smith closed the meeting by thanking the Board of Directors, the MPG membership and all of the cooperative’s customers for their continued support throughout the year.  

MPG is a diversified agricultural supply and marketing cooperative based in Presque Isle and has served the needs of Maine’s agricultural and resource-based industries and its surrounding communities since 1932. Marketing division activities consist primarily of the purchase and re-sale of potatoes and grain. Supply division activities consist primarily of sales of agricultural supplies and services, crop inputs and services, farm equipment and maintenance, petroleum products and retail hardware sales.
