Approximately 30 veterans, Auxiliary and family members gathered at the New Sweden School on Nov. 10, to commemorate Veterans Day. The entire school body assembled to pay tribute to the veterans and each classroom presented a patriotic song or skit for their guests. The Perkins/Plourde American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 136, provided a program to the students, followed by American Legion member Herman Fisher, who spoke about his military service spent in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier. The New Sweden students had many interesting questions and participated enthusiastically in a question-and answer period. Each student received a book about veterans and the Nov. 10 event also featured a luncheon honoring the veterans, which was served by the students. Among those participating in the event were from left, in front: Margaret Johnson, Kathy Robinson, Norman St. Peter, John Sodergren, Lindy Mattson, Rosemary Bates and Sylvia Mattson. Second row: Pastor Gordon Compton, Herman Fisher and Danny Dixon. In back are Andy Olson, Rudy St. Peter, George Nelson, Leigh St. Peter and Rita Olson.
