Since the weather wasn’t cooperating last weekend, the Houlton High School varsity basketball teams didn’t compete in the two-day tournament at Penobscot Valley High School. Instead, they were only able to play one game on Saturday.
The Lady Shires faced Penquis in the preseason contest, taking a 68-54 victory.
“The girls played extremely well, considering we haven’t had any practice time to work on game strategy,” said Houlton girls’ coach Shawn Graham.
Amanda Fogarty led the Houlton girls’ offense with 22 points, followed by Marina Cameron with 10, more. Freshman Samantha Keegan netted nine points, while veterans Tori Hanson and Taylor Bailey finished with eight points apiece. Rounding out the scoring were Makala Folsom and Bre Longstaff with five and four points, respectively.
“Overall, we had very good offensive balance in the scoring department,” Graham said.
Penquis was led by Lexi Larson’s 19 points, along with Kristin Chapman’s 17.
