AYBL slates grades 3-4 tryouts

Aroostook Youth Basketball League tryouts for Caribou third- and fourth-graders will take place next week.

Girls tryouts will take place Monday, Dec. 6 at the Caribou Middle School from 6:30-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at Teague Park from 6:15-7:45 p.m. Registration will take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6.

Boys tryouts will take place Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Teague Park from 6:15-7:45 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 9 at CMS from 6:30-8 p.m. Registration is slated for Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6:15 p.m.

Saucier tabbed as top rookie

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Rashell Saucier, a freshman from Washburn, was honored as rookie of the week in the Sunrise Conference.

Saucier received the award for the week ending Nov. 21 after averaging 9.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in three games. She had 13 points and six boards in a 93-53 loss to Maine Maritime Academy; and followed that with six points and eight rebounds in a 77-34 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University. Rashell closed the week by leading her team with a 10-point effort in the Owl’s first win of the season over Lasell College, 53-52. Saucier also grabbed six rebounds in the victory.

Standings in the Caribou Men’s Basketball League as of Nov. 28 are as follows: Griffeth Ford (3-0), Freddy Ps (3-0), St. Peter Construction (2-1), Time Warner Cable (2-1), Leo’s Citgo (1-2), Loring Job Corps (0-2), Gagnon’s Studio (0-2), Theriault Lawn Care (0-3).

The schedule for this week is: Wednesday, Dec. 1, Griffeth Ford vs. St. Peter Construction, 7 p.m.; Theriault Lawn Care vs. Freddy Ps, 8 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 6, Loring Job Corps vs. Time Warner, 7 p.m.; Freddy Ps vs. Griffeth Ford, 8 p.m.

RCCC makes donation

Representatives from the Roostook County Car Club delivered 209 food items and $42 in cash to the Bread of Life Food Kitchen in Caribou last week.

The donations were made during the club’s Race for Hunger event held in Caribou Nov. 20.

Delivering the items on Nov. 22 to Shirley Fortin, who operates Bread of Life, were RCCC president Marcel Bosse, his wife Nancy, daughter Janet and Damian Theriault, who were all club members.

OAPI event

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outdoor Adventure Program will host a program to close out the semester. Registrants will be able to participate in biathlon target practice at the Nordic Heritage Sports Center on Friday, Dec. 3. Instruction and activities for this event will be led by local elite biathletes and the registration deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. For more information contact Kim McCrea at 768-9401.

The WinterKids Passport offers all Maine fifth, sixth and seventh graders the opportunity to learn and enjoy winter sports, with free and discounted tickets, lessons, and rentals at over 50 outdoor recreation areas across the state, including downhill ski areas, cross country ski centers, ice skating arenas and snow tubing parks.
