Danforth home tours to benefit food pantry

    DANFORTH — Linda Gray said she “had the most fun and the most excitement when Country Sampler sent photographers from Virginia” to shoot her home for a feature that landed in the current issue of the magazine. Gray said she had forgotten about sending photos to the magazine and was shocked as well as excited when someone contacted her about doing a story.
    On Saturday, Dec. 11, visitors can view Gray’s home first-hand as well as her sister-in-law’s house for a $10 admission fee that will go the food pantry in Danforth. “I wanted to thank the Lord. And what better way than helping the food pantry.”
    According to the article, entitled the “Maine Event,” Gray and her husband have “elevated everyday décor to extraordinary” and “they have turned a tiny camp house into an inviting country home.” Gray said she has used lots of reds, mustards and black in her color scheme. The house is appointed with locally purchased antiques, family heirloom fabrics, quilts, braided and hooked rugs and even a table from her husband’s office.
    The top floor, a converted attic, is now a guest room running the whole length of the house. On the main floor Gray’s master bedroom sits near two more guest rooms, a gathering room, a living room and a kitchen. One of the guest rooms connects to the gathering room with French doors and features an electric Franklin stove.
    The master bedroom has a predominantly blue color scheme. “It’s so beautiful. It has a high head board that I reupholstered myself with a scene of a fireplace, a dog and an overstuffed chair,” Gray said enthusiastically. She described the décor throughout the house as “country, primitive and very New England.
    To complement the tour of the home featured in Country Sampler, Gray’s sister-in-law, Barbara Gray, is showing off her home, too. “She is busy decorating her home with a Christmas theme that includes a small family heirloom tree and seasonal decorations,” Linda explained.
