Art classes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department and Wintergreen Arts will begin registration Dec. 15 for the winter session of classes. Classes begin Jan. 11 and wrap up Feb. 18.
The Wonderful World of Paint – Grab your easels and palettes and jump into the wonderful world of paint! From watercolor and paper, to acrylics and canvas, students will learn the basics of different painting styles. They will also learn about different artists’ styles and learn to paint like pros.
Calling All Confectioners – The students will create their own confectionary masterpieces out of clay and turn Wintergreen into a candy shop. Culinary terminology, recipe reading, ingredient measuring and artistic plating will be taught. The students will even get a chance to make and sample some real candy. It will be one treat after another.

Kids’ Christmas Party
The recreation department will offer a Kids’ Christmas Party for grades 1-5 on Friday, Dec. 17 from 6-8:30 p.m. The party will include gym games, bingo, pizza eating and a gift swap. For more information, call 764-2545.
3rd & 4th grade basketball results
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has kicked off a new season of third- and fourth-grade basketball. The boys league kicked off play as Syracuse took on Michigan in a Tuesday matinee. Riley Kinney, who had eight points in the contest, led Syracuse’s scoring attack. Adding to Kinney’s offense was Ifeanyi Sargent with six points, Cole Paterson with four and Jonah Hudson with two.
On the other side of the court, Michigan’s Colby Buckley led his team with eight points only to be followed closely behind by Caleb Wheaton with six points and Madison Bubar with two. Syracuse earned its first win by a score of 20-16.
In the late game, Duke hosted North Carolina. For North Carolina, William Bridges caught fire and had a game-high 12 points. Adding to Carolina’s attack was Trace Cyr with six points and Ricky Goupille and Kyler Caron each with two.
As for Duke, Michael Berube and Zech Morse both had six points with Jaren Winger also adding a bucket. North Carolina won the contest, 22-14.
Last, Wednesday the girls’ third- and fourth-graders hit the hardwood, with the Irish facing off with the Huskies. For the Irish, Julia Good and Molly Kingsbury both led the way with four points each and had a strong supporting cast with Alana Legassie, Rebecca Rider and Taylor Guerrette all adding two points.
The Huskies had a tough shooting night for their first game with Libby Boone scoring the Huskies only points in the 14-3 loss.
In the second game, the Black Bears and Terriers went head to head and the Black Bears’ Savannah Rodriguez had a game-high 16 points and assisted on the other two baskets by Anna Robinson and Karlie Voisine.
The Terriers played hard, with Rebecca Collins scoring four points and Libby Moreau adding a hoop, but the Black Bears prevailed, 20-6.
Men’s basketball
Men’s basketball is under way and runs Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. The program is informal and cost is $1 per evening. Players must be 18 years or older to participate.
Birthday parties at the pool and rec center
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is hosting birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the recreation center, in addition to hosting parties at the indoor pool.
The recreation center is available Friday and Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m., with one hour of organized gym games included in the rental. Activities vary with age groups, but include wiffleball, soccer, basketball and kickball. For more information on rentals for the recreation center, call 764-2545 or email pirec@maine.rr.com.
