come through
with shutout victory
PRESQUE ISLE — The Wildcat hockey team opened their season at home Friday evening with an impressive 7-0 thrashing of Gardiner.

HOCKEY HIT —Taking an elbow to the midsection is Presque Isle’s Cody Merrill, right, during Friday night’s contest. The Wildcats started their season in style, defeating the visiting Gardiner Tigers, 7-0. Presque Isle is now preparing for upcoming road contests against Lawrence (Saturday) and Houlton (next Wednesday).
Connor Shaw and Isaac LaJoie both had three goals to lead the Wildcats. Adam Flynn also had a goal in the win. Notching assists were Cody Merrill (two), Tyler Seeley (two), Shaw, Jacob Buck, Jordan Hallett, Mike Michaud and Caleb Buck.
Josh MacFarline started in goal for Presque Isle, before giving way to Nic Davis halfway through the second period.
Gardiner outshot Presque Isle 28-22. The Wildcats struggled with penalties in the third quarter, allowing Gardiner a 13-4 edge in shots.
PI next plays Lawrence on the road Saturday.
