Middle school boys add to victory total
The Caribou Middle School boys basketball team picked up two more wins this past week to improve its record to 3-1.
On Friday, the Vikings defeated Caribou 62-35. Caribou jumped to an early 18-6 first quarter lead and never looked back. Dayne Savage led the Vikings with 23 points, including 12 in that first quarter. Taylor Thibodeau added 10; Dustin Bouchard, seven; and Nate Wall and Colby Holdsworth, five each.
For Fort Fairfield, Robbie Watson led the way with 10 points, while Brandon York added eight.
On Tuesday, Dec. 7, Caribou thrashed Madawaska, 64-19. Madawaska had difficulty against the Vikings’ man-to-man defense. Thibodeau paced the Vikings with 10 points; Matt Milton added nine; Bouchard, Wall and Carter Chabot each totalled eight; and Holdsworth and Savage had seven each.
Alumni basketball games
Caribou High School will host its annual alumni basketball games Thursday, Dec. 23. The women’s game is at 6 p.m. and the men’s game is at 7:30 p.m. All former CHS players are invited to participate and should wear a white shirt. Call 493-4260 for more information.

WDHS preseason tourney concludes
Washburn hosted a girls’ preseason basketball tournament Dec. 7 and 8, with Central Aroostook besting Ashland in Tuesday’s first game, 69-24, and Madawaska topping the host Beavers in the nightcap, 54-51.
The following evening, CA downed Madawaska, 54-26, before Washburn defeated Ashland, 47-26.
An all-tournament team was announced last Wednesday, with CA’s Vicki McIntyre claiming MVP honors. Others on the elite squad included Rachael Grew of CA, Erin Dugal of Madawaska, Brooke LaBelle of Ashland and Carmen Bragg and Rebecca Campbell, both of Washburn.
Hitting clinic offered
The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team will host a two-day hitting clinic from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 28 and 29 in Wieden Gymnasium.
This two-day hitting clinic will focus on the fundamentals of hitting and bunting a baseball. Much attention will be given to the proper grip and swing mechanics while engaging in various hitting drills. The cost for this clinic is $50 per athlete and athletes 8-16 years of age are invited to attend. For more information, contact coach Leo Saucier at 768-9421.
