The Caribou Vikings opened their regular season in style Saturday, using stifling defense to defeat Bucksport on the road. Washburn was an easy winner in its opener, while Limestone/MSSM was beaten by Southern Aroostook in Dyer Brook Monday to kick off its regular season.

Fort Fairfield was the last local team to get its regular season under way. The Tigers, last year’s Eastern Maine Class D runner-up, made the trip to Mars Hill last night to take on the CA Panthers.
Summaries of games played through Monday, Dec. 13 are as follows:
Southern Aroostook 74, Limestone/MSSM 50 – At Dyer Brook Monday, four Warriors scored in double figures as they easily beat Limestone/MSSM.
The two teams combined for 17 three-point field goals, with the Eagles connecting on nine and the Warriors eight. SA used a 24-14 run in the third quarter to take control.
Rob Rockwell totaled 25 points to lead the way for the 1-1 Warriors.
Cody Bryant scored 13 points and Josh Forsman added 12 for the Eagles.
Caribou 45, Bucksport 27 – Saturday at Bucksport, Caribou outscored the host Bucks by a 24-5 margin in the second half to come away with the victory.
The Vikes trailed by a point at intermission, but Matt Till scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to spark Caribou to the victory. Roland Thibodeau added 13 points in the game for the winners
Tyler French scored 11 points to pace the Golden Bucks.
Washburn 96, Ashland 34 – On Friday at Ashland, Jordan McLaughlin scored 26 points as Washburn easily got past Ashland in the first game played at the new Ashland District School Gymnasium.
Mitch Worcester had 22 points for the Beavers, who put up 35 points in the opening quarter thanks to an effective fullcourt press and accurate shooting from the floor. Chase Chandler added 10 points for Washburn.
Tarr, who made history by scoring the game’s first basket, had 15 points to pace the Hornets.
