Blackhawks down PI

HOULTON, Maine – The Presque Isle hockey team allowed five first-period goals in last Wednesday’s 8-1 loss to the Houlton-Hodgdon Blackhawks at Millar Arena.

It was the second straight loss, both coming on the road, for the Wildcats. PI had opened the season with a shutout victory at home over Gardiner.

Seven different players netted goals for Houlton-Hodgdon, the top-ranked team in Eastern Maine Class B, which improved to 4-0 on the season. Cody Briggs had two, while Ben Ward, Brandon Ward, Kam Lincoln, Jordan Russell, Nick Chase and Logan Holmes contributed one apiece. Ben Ward had three assists, while Ian Gervais and Parker Sanderson both had two.

Presque Isle was outshot in the contest by a 52-10 margin, with the Blackhawks’ Malik Abouleish saving nine of 10 shots and Josh MacFarline (36 saves on 43 shots) and Nic Davis (eight of nine) sharing goalie duties for the ’Cats.

Caleb Buck scored a second-period goal to provide Presque Isle with its offense. Assists went to Connor Shaw and Andrew Michaud.
