With the Christmas holiday and inclement weather, there aren’t many games to report from last week. The Houlton girls improved their record to 3-0, while the Hodgdon girls suffered their first loss to Central Aroostook.
Last Wednesday in Millinocket, the Lady Shires picked up a 34-27 win over Stearns.
The Houlton girls trailed 8-7 to open the game, but grabbed a 16-12 halftime lead. They pushed their lead in the third to 23-16.
Amanda Fogarty scored a game-high 14 points, while freshman Samantha Keegan chipped in 10 points. Tori Hanson and Marina Cameron both added five points.
In the junior varsity contest, Houlton took a lopsided 44-19 victory.
Last Tuesday, the second quarter of the Hodgdon-CAHS girls proved pivotal, as the Lady Hawks who had trailed 11-8 to start the game fell behind 21-13 at halftime. In the third, the Lady Hawks were outscored 12-5, as Mars Hill extended their lead to 33-18 and went on to win the game, 43-26.
Mariah Wiley was the top scorer for Hodgdon with nine points. Haley Gardiner scored four points and Haley Quint added three.
For Mars Hill, Rachael Grew tossed in 17 points, while Vicki McIntyre netted 15 points. The Lady Panthers improve to 4-1.
In the junior varsity game, Hodgdon won 33-23.
The Houlton Shiretowners didn’t fare well last Thursday in Millinocket, as they were defeated easily, 56-17 by Stearns.
The Minutemen jumped to a 16-2 opening-quarter lead and extended it to 32-13 at intermission. Stearns held Houlton scoreless in the third taking a 48-13 lead.
At Millinocket, Brandon McLaughlin scored a game-high 24 points as the Stearns Minutemen got out to a big lead and never looked back.
Nick Guiod led Houlton with six points, while Zach Harvey and Doug Dickison each had five points.
The Shiretowners are 0-4 on the season.
In the junior varsity game, Houlton won 63-58.
