Christmas vacation activities
The recreation department will offer various events and activities for the remainder of Christmas break.
Open gym will run Monday through Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for elementary grades and 3-5 p.m. for junior and senior high grades.
Wednesday will start off with Contest Day for grades 1-6 at 9:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a Wiffleball Home Run Derby for grades 4-6 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday will include New England Bowling at Northern Lanes for grades 1-6 from 9:30-11 a.m., Kiddie Kickball for grades 1-3 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Dollar Day at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool for Presque Isle residents from 1-2:45 p.m.

Grades 5-6 basketball registration
The department will offering fifth and sixth grade basketball for both boys and girls. Registration begins Jan. 3 and the season begins Jan. 29. The registration fee for this program is $18 for Presque Isle residents.

The department will offer fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade cheerleading. Registration begins Jan. 3, and the season begins Jan. 29. The registration fee for this program is $18 for Presque Isle residents. Girls interested can also participate in the basketball program as the schedules will not interfere with each other.
Northern Zumba to offer classes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department and Northern Zumba are pleased to offer ZUMBA. This program will be offered Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings from 9-10 a.m. starting Jan. 5. XC skiing
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department and the Nordic Heritage Sport Club are offering cross country skiing for grades 1-8 on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m.-noon. Registration is under way at the William V. Haskell Community Center. This program begins Jan. 8 and runs through March 12. The fee for the program is $18 per child for the 10-week session.

Men’s basketball
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will offer men’s basketball Tuesday and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. This program is for individuals over 18 years of age and out of high school. The cost is $1 per night.
Archery program under way Jan. 2
The recreation department and Uncle Buck’s Archery will offer archery on Sunday nights from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 2-23. For more information, contact the recreation center at 764-2545 or Uncle Buck’s Archery at 227-3209.
Grades 3-4 basketball summaries
Michigan’s Erick Tompkins led the way by scoring eight points and Caleb Wheaton added six in a 14-8 win over North Carolina. 14-8. William Bridges had a team-high three points, followed by Sam Beaulieu and Trace Cyr with two each and Kyler Caron with one.
Duke’s Michael Berube had a season-high 20 points, with Jaren Winger adding 10, Zech Morse chipping in with four and Jacob Bonville adding a basket in a 36-16 win over Georgetown. Jacob Martin had a team-high 11 points, Rolen Mortland finished with three and Alex Churchill added a hoop for Georgetown.
Six different players scored in North Carolina’s 27-12 victory over Arizona. Trace Cyr led the winners with 12 points, while Bridges added 12, Beaulieu four and Ricky Goupille and Chase Quirion two each. Mason Young chipped in with a free throw to round out the scoring. Jacob Sjoberg and Jason Dumais scored six each for Arizona.
The middle game of the triple header displayed the talents of Syracuse and Georgetown. Syracuse’s Riley Kinney had a game-high 10 points, followed by Ifeanyi Sargent with five, Cole Paterson with four and Andrew Hewitt with two in the 21-15 triumph. On the other side of the hardwood, Georgetown’s Carter Rice had a team-high seven points, followed closely by Jacob Martin scoring six and Alex Churchill and Rolen Mortland both adding a basket.
Jaren Winger tallied 12 points and Michael Berube netted 10 as Duke topped Michigan, 26-19. Bonville and Morse both had buckets for the winners, while Tompkins’ 13 points paced Michigan. Caleb Wheaton, Drew Cameron and Colby Buckley had a field goal apiece.
In girls play, the Irish took on the Huskies and came out on top, 18-7. The Irish’s Taylor Guerrette led all scorers with six points, followed by Paige McHatten and Alana LeGassie each with four and Molly Kingsbury and Rebecca Rider both with a bucket. Kamryn Gilmour scored four points to lead the Huskies, while Clair Hopkins had two and Libby Boone made a foul shot.
The Black Bears defeated the Terriers, 14-4, behind Savannah Rodriguez. She scored a game-high 14 points. As for the Terriers, Rebecca Collins and Libby Moreau both had two points.
Jaren Winger scored 12 points, while Morse had eight and Berube five along with eight assists in the win over Arizona. Jacob Bonville notched four points to aid the cause. Mark Graves scored Arizona’s only point of the game.
Michigan claimed a 30-10 win over Georgetown with Tompkins providing a game-high 22 points, followed by Caleb Wheaton with four and Isaac Currier and Madison Bubar each with a basket. Georgetown’s Carter Rice and Jacob Martin both scored four points and Rolen Mortland chipped in with a a hoop.
