Youth hockey fundraiser

A Presque Isle High School alumni hockey team will take on a team consisting of the youth hockey coaches as a fundraiser for Presque Isle Youth Hockey.

The game will be played Saturday, Jan. 1 at 4:30 p.m. at the Forum. Between periods, members of the 5- and 6-year-old program will display their new hockey skills.

Bigrock offers ski lessons

In recognition of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Week, Bigrock Ski Area in Mars Hill is offering free lessons Jan. 3-9.

Bigrock is one of eight ski areas in Maine participating.

DSA indoor session

The next trimester of the Dutch Soccer Academy indoor program begins Jan. 3, and registration is under way.

Grades K-3 meet from 5-6 p.m., grades 4-5 from 6-7 p.m. and grades 6-8 from 7-8 p.m. at the Northern Maine Community College gymnasium in Presque Isle.

Trimester dates are Jan. 3, 10, 24 and 31; Feb. 7, 14 and 28; and March 7.

Athlete of the week chosen at PIHS

Hockey player Jacob Buck was selected as athlete of the week by the Presque Isle Varsity Club for the week of Dec. 13-18.

Buck has played solid defense early in the season for the Wildcats and was selected as a team captain.

Roller skating trip planned

The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a field trip to the Melody Roller Rink on Wednesday, Dec. 29. The bus will depart from the community center at 1:30 p.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $4 per person, which includes transportation, admission and roller skate use (there is an additional fee for roller blades). Participants under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible chaperone.
