The Caribou boys continue to be among the top surprises in the region after beating Fort Kent last Wednesday for their fourth consecutive victory to begin the season.
Caribou, ranked fifth in Eastern Maine Class B, has allowed an average of 31.7 points per game in wins over Bucksport, Mattanawcook, Old Town and the Warriors.
The Vikings face a couple tough tests this week. Caribou was scheduled to play at 4-0 Mount Desert Island yesterday and will be back on the road Thursday to take on John Bapst.
Summaries of games played in last week’s abbreviated slate are as follows:
Caribou boys 34, Fort Kent 29 – The Vikings moved to 4-0 on the season with another solid defensive performance leading the way last Wednesday in Fort Kent.
Caribou held the Warriors to three third-quarter points to build a four-point lead after the game was tied at halftime.
Offensively, Chad Caverhill scored a career-high 10 points, thanks in part to a pair of three-point field goals. Stephen St. Peter continued his consistent play by netting eight points.
Tom Enerva’s 11 points led Fort Kent, which suffered its first loss after opening with three consecutive victories.
Van Buren boys 53, Limestone-MSSM 42 – The Crusaders posted their first victory of the season last Tuesday behind Eric LaPlante’s 25-point effort.
LaPlante hit nine of 10 from the foul line over the final eight minutes to help the home team come out on top for the first time after suffering four consecutive losses to begin the campaign.
The Eagles, who led 25-24 at halftime, were led by Josh Forsman with 14 points. The senior guard connected for four three-pointers in the game. Austin Dow-Smith and Arron St. Pierre both scored seven points for 0-5 Limestone-MSSM.
