SADC holds annual meeting

Wade named  president, chairman of group
    HOULTON — The Houlton Regional Hospital’s Health Education Center was the scene for the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation’s annual meeting on Dec. 22.
    Almost 50 people were present to hear the guest speaker, Aroostook County’s own Larry Shaw, speak about “It Can Happen Here” which was about why his company, that could be located much closer to population and financial centers, has chosen to remain in Maine and more importantly Aroostook County. Shaw is president and CEO of Maine Mutual Insurance in Presque Isle.

    In addition to the speaker, elections were held for a new slate of officers for 2011. Terry Wade, plant manager for Smith & Wesson, was elected for a two-year term as president and chairman of the board. He is the fourth president of SADC. Marguerite Lawler, of Machias Savings Bank, was elected secretary; Chris Anderson of the F.A. Peabody Company, registered agent; and David Gates, CPA at SAGE Financial, as treasurer.
    The meeting culminated with an award presentation to outgoing president, Peter Chase, of Buildings Etc. He was presented with an engraved desk clock honoring his two-year commitment to SADC as president. At the presentation, Executive Director Jon McLaughlin stated, “I must say that SADC would not be as successful if it were not for the many hours put in by the officers and board of directors. This dedication cannot be any better exemplified than by the actions of our chair and president, Peter Chase, who has been our president for the past two years. It has been my pleasure to work closely with Pete these past few years and I thank him for his guidance.”
