PRESQUE ISLE — City Council was busy in January, making annual appointments — and in many cases, reappointments — for various municipal positions.

Jennifer Trombley was reappointed as Council chairperson, with Councilor Emily Smith being voted deputy chair.

Councilors voted unanimously to reappoint Hugo A. Olore Jr. as city attorney.

Two seats for one-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2011, on the Audit Committee were filled, with Trombley and Councilor Mel Hovey being appointed by their peers.

The newest member of City Council, Bruce Sargent, was appointed to fill one seat on the Forum Advisory Board for a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2014.

Appointed to two vacancies on the Presque Isle Development Fund Board of Trustees for one-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2011, were Councilors Randy Smith and Don Gardner.

Councilor Emily Smith was named to a one-year term on the Northern Maine Development Fund Commission. She will serve through Dec. 31, 2011.

All councilors will be named in one capacity or another to serve on the Finance Committee, filling four seats and three alternates for one-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2011. Councilors Hovey, Emily Smith, Walt Elish and Randy Smith were appointed as members of the Finance Committee to approve treasurer’s warrants, with Councilors Gardner, Sargent and Trombley named as alternates. Hovey was appointed to approve payroll warrants.

Two seats on the Presque Isle Industrial Council Board of Directors were filled. Hovey and Randy Smith were nominated and approved for three-year terms or the remainder of their term on the City Council, whichever is less.

Councilors also approved Council meeting times for 2011, setting such meetings for the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, located on the third floor of City Hall, 12 Second St. In instances when the first Monday is a recognized holiday, or in cases of severe weather when offices are closed, the regular meeting shall be held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the same location. Special meetings will be determined and scheduled by councilors during regularly-scheduled meetings.

Council’s next session will be Monday, Feb. 7, at City Hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to participate. For more information, call 760-2785.
