Local high school teams finish regular season

    The regular high school basketball season has finished and the recaps from last week’s games are as follows:
Hodgdon teams defeat GHCA; fall to Houlton, Washburn
    The Hodgdon Hawks erased a 10-point deficit and used Josh Hudson’s 18 fourth-quarter points to take a 72-69 win over visiting Greater Houlton Christian Academy last Thursday.
    Hudson finished with a game-high 30 points, while Jake Tidd netted 19; Nick Lunn and Tyler Sherman each had eight points.
    For GHCA, Micah Wiley fired in 23 points, while Ethan Holmes posted 14. Deyrell Vargas and Isaiah Straubel each added 11 more.
    GHCA led 18-11 to start the game, but Hodgdon came back to take a halftime advantage of 35-33. GHCA climbed back into the lead in the third, 52-44.
sp-SAboys-dc2-pt-7PLAYOFFS — The Southern Aroostook Warriors will be traveling to Fort Fairfield for their preliminary game tonight at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WHOU-FM 100.1. Anthony Diaferio, seen taking a layup, and his teammates hope to come out winners. Last year, Fort Fairfield ended the Warriors tournament run in the Class D quarterfinals with a 67-61 win.
    For Hodgdon, Lunn scored a game-high 20 points, while Hudson had 12 and Devon Logie, six more.   
    In the girls’ game, Hodgdon overpowered GHCA, 76-29.
    Cierra Willette scored 14 points for Hodgdon, while Mariah Wiley had nine; Haley Quint and Haley Gardiner each had eight points; Maya Gardiner added six and Brittany Davies chipped in with five.
    Allison Little had nine points for GHCA.
    Last Wednesday, the visiting Houlton Shiretowners came back to defeat Hodgdon, 50-42.
    The Hawks took an opening lead of 16-10 and held a halftime advantage of 24-21. After three, the game was knotted at 33-all.
    Chris Anderson led the way for Houlton, scoring 11 of his 15 points in the second half. Nick Guiod posted 13 points; Micah Goetsch, 12 and Zach Harvey, six.
    The Shiretowners picked up a 53-48 win last Tuesday against visiting Caribou.
    Houlton turned a four-point deficit into a 24-17 halftime lead and extended it over three, 40-33, en route to the win.
    Guiod scored nine of his 15 points in the second quarter, while Goetsch netted 15; Anderson 14 and Dan Swallow seven more for the winners.
    Last Tuesday, the Lady Hawks were defeated 61-42 by Washburn.
    The Beavers opened the game with a 10-8 lead and behind Becca Campbell they went on a 19-9 run in the second to post a 29-17 lead. Campbell scored 14 of her game-high 27 in that run. After three, Washburn was ahead, 43-29.
    Wiley scored 15 points for Hodgdon, while Jennah Steamer scored eight; H. Gardiner, six and Willette, five more.
Cougars fall to Panthers; both teams played Searsport
    Last Thursday, the Katahdin Cougars trailed early and couldn’t overcome visiting Central Aroostook, 69-53.
    The Panthers jumped to a 17-9 opening lead and held a 34-21 halftime advantage. After the third, CAHS built a 49-38 cushion.
    Brendan York scored 19 points, while Caleb Kelley tossed in 16 and Mike McClung tallied 10.
    For Katahdin, Brandon Robinson scored a game-high 24 points; Kolby Gallagher added 14 more and Colton Bivighouse chipped in with nine.
    Last Wednesday, the Katahdin teams swept visiting Searsport.
    In the girls’ game, Katahdin extended its 21-20 halftime lead to 33-28 after the third en route to the 52-39 victory.
    Brittany Fogarty scored 21 points, while Megan Merry added 19 more.
    Robinson keyed the Katahdin boys to a 69-62 victory, as he pumped in 21 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter. He went 14-for-18 from the line.
    Katahdin led 31-24 at halftime, but trailed 42-39 in the third, but Robinson’s fourth-quarter performance lifted his team to the win.
    Bivighouse tossed in 16 points and Gallagher netted 10 more for the winners.
SACS teams win
    Southern Aroostook overtook Easton, 66-51, last Thursday when Pat Goodall sparked a 23-8 scoring run in the second quarter, as the Warriors went ahead, 31-21. The Warriors led 44-27 after the third en route to the win.
    Goodall had nine of his 11 points in the second and grabbed 20 rebounds, while Rob Rockwell scored 20 points and handed out 10 assists and had seven steals. Cody Robinson, Jesse Boulier and Joe Frazier each scored nine points, while Anthony Diaferio had six.
    The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors defeated host Limestone last Wednesday, 51-41.
    Sable Altvater paced Southern Aroostook with 12 points, while Olivia Raymond had eight and Jasmine Rockwell scored six. Janel Rockwell and Kaitlyn Sommers each scored five more.
    SACS led 13-8 to start the game and held a halftime advantage of 27-16. After the third, the Lady Warriors led 38-25.
