HOULTON — The Hope and Justice Project is launching an awareness campaign to alert the community about abuse against teens for February — Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Flyers have been sent to area schools in the hope that students will create their own posters as they have done in the past.
Leslie P. Gervais, prevention educator for the Hope and Justice Project is telling teenagers they may be or they may know someone who is or has been affected by dating or domestic violence or abuse. “Teens have the right to safe healthy relationships. My hope is that students will take a lead in raising awareness and prevent teen dating violence in their schools.” Gervais also said nearly one out of every three teens has been the victim of sexual abuse, physical abuse or emotional abuse from a dating partner.
