Volunteers with the AARP Tax Aid Service have announced they will have a site in both Caribou and Presque Isle this year. These sites are staffed with trained volunteers who use the latest tax preparation software to prepare public participants’ personal federal and state tax returns.
The goal of this community service project is to provide free tax preparation, including free electronic filing of tax returns, to low-and middle-income groups with special attention to those age 60 and older.
Locations and times for this service include the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center on Bennett Drive, from noon to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 1 through April 14;Â and in Presque at the UMPI Campus Center Building on Main Street in Room 118; hours there will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays beginning Feb. 5 continuing through April 116.
Neither business returns nor complex personal returns will be handled at these locations.
Participants do not have to be members of AARP to take advantage of this service.
