Schools to host parenting classes

ASAP Coalition is partnering with two local school districts to offer parenting classes in two locations — Wellington School in Monticello and Mill Pond School in Hodgdon. Both schools will be sponsoring the “Becoming a Love and Logic Parent” classes, which will be held once per week for six weeks.
Love and Logic is a parenting method that makes parenting fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic. Training participants will receive practical tools and techniques that will help them achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children and help them prepare their kids to be responsible, caring adults.
According to the Love and Logic approach, love allows children to grow through their mistakes while logic allows them to live with the consequences of their choices. How does Love and Logic work? This approach uses humor, hope and empathy to build up the adult-child relationship; emphasizes respect and dignity both for children and adults; provides real limits in a loving way and teaches consequences and healthy decision-making.
The parenting program consists of six two-hour sessions which will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. in both locations. Supper and child care will be provided at each session. Sessions at Mill Pond School will be held on Tuesday evenings starting March 1. Sessions at Wellington School will be held on Thursday evenings starting March 3.
The cost of registration is $20, which includes all six weeks of programming, a workbook, and free supper and childcare at every session. For more information, call Clare at 521-2408 or e-mail clare@asapcoalition. com.
