PRESQUE ISLE – The Nordic Heritage Sport Club will offer the fifth annual Aroostook Women’s Cross-Country Ski Day on Sunday, March 6 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle.

This just-for-women ski event will give participants of all ages the chance to ski and enjoy other wellness centered activities while raising money for two good causes. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hope and Justice Project, and women’s programming at the Nordic Heritage Sport Club.

The Hope and Justice Project’s mission is to serve the needs of the victims/survivors of domestic abuse while working to end domestic violence in Aroostook County. Some of the many services offered are a 24-hour hotline to provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter sites for women and children who are homeless as a result of family violence.

“The Hope and Justice Project works on many levels in Aroostook County to create safer families. We are one piece of the puzzle in changing the climate of relationships from violence-ridden to one of safety and equality and your donations and support make this goal more of a reality,” said Julie French, event planner and Hope and Justice staff member said.

“Hope and Justice Project is Aroostook County’s resource for helping people affected by abuse and violence in their families and dating relationships,” said Francine Garland Stark, executive director of the Hope and Justice Project.

This ski event is a great way for women to be active in the outdoors while helping to raise money for a cause.

Following registration, clinic sign-up and breakfast snacks at 9 a.m., on-snow activities will kick off with a morning session featuring a Zumba warm-up followed by a choice of ski clinics or snowshoe tours. The afternoon will involve a choice of yoga, a nutrition talk or ski and snowshoe tours. Massages will be available by raffle and lunch will be catered.

Cost is $40 and pre-registration is required. There will be a $5 discount for Nordic Heritage Sport Club members. The cost includes lunch, clinics, lodge activities and ski equipment. Women are encouraged to bring warm clothes that can be layered.
