Area artist wins spot in New York Art Expo
CASTLE HILL — Tim Gagnon, of Castle Hill, recently won a competition to display his paintings in the New York Art Expo, which takes place March 25-27 in New York City.
Gagnon was selected from over 800 artists around the world. The competition took place online, and was put on by the curators of the New York Art Expo. The contest was designed where artists from all over the world could enter one piece of artwork to be voted on by any Facebook member. Nearly 800 artists entered their artwork, and Facebook members voted for their favorites over a 60-day period. The top 10 vote getters then moved on to the final round of judging, where the final winner would be selected by the Art Expo curators.
Gagnon entered one of his unique surreal landscapes titled “Before Things Go Cold.” Over the course of voting, Gagnon’s artwork would range from the first position all the way down to the 11th position. Thousands of people were voting every day which would rearrange the top 10 daily. After frantic voting on the last day, Gagnon ended up in the eighth position with about 2,000 votes.
“There was a lot of competition, but I had a lot of support from friends and the people who follow my artwork. I was just happy that I made it to the final round of judging, and hoped that the judges would like my take on the landscape,” Gagnon said. “I was excited when I received word from the judges that I had won. This is a very big opportunity for me to connect with publishers and well-known galleries.”
The New York Art Expo attracts many artists, art collectors, and celebrities. One well-known celebrity who will be attending the Art Expo is Jane Seymour, who has appeared in many movies and television shows. She will be displaying her own artwork, as well. Over 400 artists, galleries and publishers will be displaying work at the show. The event is taking place at Pier 94 in Manhattan.
