Skating show set for Saturday

The Northern Maine Figure Skating Club will present its 29th annual Musical On Ice Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m. at the Forum in Presque Isle.

The club will present “Newspaper Headlines On Ice,” with song titles including “Beatles Medley,” “Let It Snow,” “Peace Train,” “Paparazzi,” “Proud To Be An American,” “What A Wonderful World” and more.

Tickets can be purchased at Carroll’s Auto Sales, from any skating club member or at the door. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

BDN all-tourney teams

The Bangor Daily News announced their all-tournament teams from the Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament last week, with Carmen Bragg of Washburn and Mike McClung of Central Aroostook also collecting Most Valuable Player awards in Class D.

Bragg, a freshman, averaged 12.7 points per game in leading the Beavers to the title. She was joined on the all-tournament team by two teammates – freshman Nicole Olson and senior Rebecca Campbell – as well as Fort Fairfield junior Amanda Hotham. Senior Sarah Sjoberg of Washburn and Central Aroostook juniors Vicki McIntyre and Rachael Grew received honorable mention.

McClung earned MVP honors by averaging 14 ppg and the big man was instrumental in leading the Panthers to its title. CA senior Caleb Kelly and Washburn sophomore Mitchell Worcester were also selected to the all-tourney squad, with senior Travis Noyes of Fort Fairfield, junior Jordan McLaughlin of Washburn and junior Brendan York of CA earning honorable mention.

In Class B, Kayla Richards of Presque Isle earned a berth on the all-tourney team, with Chandler Guerrette and Meredith Stewart receiving honorable mention.

Pre K-K basketball offered

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for children in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten for the spring basketball season. The cost for the six-week session is $18. The season will begin March 28. Call 764-2545 for more information.

UMPI to host pitching clinic

The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team will host a one-day pitching clinic from 6-9 p.m. at Wieden Gymnasium March 16.             Registrants will learn the basics of pitching mechanics and will be given individualized attention throughout the clinic. Pitchers also will have the opportunity to purchase a videotape of their pre- and post-instruction pitching form and will learn about arm care. The cost to attend this clinic is $35.
