Swimmers compete in NE’s
Presque Isle’s Erica Hemphill set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.22 seconds in Saturday’s New England High School Swim Championships held at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.
Hemphill placed seventh in the event and also was 10th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.3.
Isaac Estey of the Wildcats was sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 58.08 seconds and 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.66.
It was the first time PIHS has participated in the New England meet and Hemphill and Estey were the first swimmers from Aroostook County ever to participate.
Seventy six schools from Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island took part in the event.
