The Ashland Area PTO will be hosting a concert with the renowned Rick Charette Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Ashland District School auditorium.

will be appearing for the very first time in concert at the Ashland District School Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public including all neighboring communities in The County.

The concert is another Ashland Area PTO “Family Fun Night” and is open to all students and families, as well as all the neighboring communities throughout The County! So bring the family out to Ashland for a night of good fun and music.

Charette, a Maine native, is a singer-songwriter who has been entertaining children for decades with such songs as “I Love Mud,” “Bubblegum” and “Alligator in the Elevator.” Though he has been in The County many times, this is his first appearance in Ashland.

The concert is free of charge thanks to the very generous and always supportive local business community. The PTO will be accepting donations to help fund the concert and future PTO events. There will also be PTO cookbooks on sale along with Rick Charette memorabilia such as music CDs, T-shirts, etc.

Retirement party being held for Ashland district employees

The Ashland Water and Sewer District will be hosting a retirement party for two of their retiring employees Sunday, March 27 at the VFW (in Ashland) from 1-4 p.m.

Donald “Junior” Rafford has been the chairman and trustee for 36 years and Cindy Chapman, administrator/treasurer, has been an employee with the District for 18 years. Light refreshments will be provided by the Ladies Auxiliary.

Aroostook River Fish and Game Club

There will be an annual meeting for the Aroostook River Fish and Game Club Monday, March 28 at 6 p.m. at Freem’s Bar & Grill in Ashland. We need anybody who is interested in becoming a member and helping with some of the duties. We will be holding elections for president, vive president, secretary/treasurer and some board member seats. Dues for the year are $20 for single member and $35 per couple. If you are interested, please be at the meeting on Monday night.

King-Thomas Scholarship available

The guidance department at Ashland District School is presently accepting applications for the King-Thomas Trust Scholarship. Graduating seniors and alumni of Ashland who are citizens of SAD 32 communities are eligible to apply for this award. Applications can be downloaded from the district website (www.sad32.org) or obtained at the guidance office. The deadline for the King-Thomas Scholarship is May 2. Questions and concerns regarding the award may be addressed by calling 435-3481, ext. 136.

Harry and Marie McCauslands celebrate anniversary

lo ashland c2x sh 12Harry and Marie of Feeding Hills, Mass., recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The couple traveled to Oak Ridge, Tenn. to visit their son and daughter-in-law.

The couple was married on Dec. 24, 1950 in Ashland. Harry is the son of the late Arthur and Annie McCausland of Masardis. Marie is the daughter of the late Rev. C.H. Nason and Doris Nason, formerly of Ashland.

They are the parents of the Rev. Randy McCausland, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Rodney McCausland, of Feeding Hills. They have two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. McCausland retired in 1992 from Feeding Hills Floor Service, which he owned and operated. He also was a pilot and flew his own planes. His wife, the former Marie Nason, worked for Wallace Manufacturing, in Enfield, for 31 years.

Ongoing events

The Portage Lake ATV Club will meet every first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Office. All are welcome to attend. Contact Rena Belanger for membership or more information at 435-2780.

The Ashland Senior Citizens Club meets every other Thursday from Nov. 1 through March 31 and every week (Thursday) from April 1 to Oct. 31 at Forest View Circle, Maple Building #4. The club meets at noon for a potluck luncheon to enjoy the company of others, games and guest entertainers. All are welcome to attend.

The Portage Lake Over 50’s Club lunch is held on the last Tuesday of every month at 11:30 a.m. at the Town Hall. All individuals 50 and over are invited to attend and can bring a potluck dish to share. For more information, contact Wilza Robertson at 435-6211 or Grace Nason at 435-6373.

The Red Hat Loonies of Portage Lake meet the second Thursday of every month at Dean’s Motor Lodge. Membership dues are $2. Come and have a great meal and a great time, too! For more information, contact Rachel Stevens at 435-6358.
