All-star hoop players compete in Caribou

B squads sweep contests

CARIBOU — Aroostook County’s top senior basketball players took to the court March 8 for the 21st annual All-Star Basketball Classic.

In the girls’ game, Team B topped Team A, 92-66, behind 23 points from Washburn’s Rebecca Campbell. Three other players reached double digits for the winning team, with Shelby Hartin of Southern Aroostook tallying 15, Jasmine Rockwell of SA with 12 and Erin Dugal of Madawaska with 11.

For Team A, Jenna Selander of Caribou led the way with 22 points. Brooke Beaulieu of Fort Fairfield had 13 and Dayna Michaud of Caribou 11. Others chipping in were Emily Bard of Fort Kent, nine; Sydney Trask of Easton, four; Brooke Hammond of Easton, three; Taylor Bailey of Houlton, two; and Brittany Fogarty of Katahdin, two. Playing but not scoring were Myah Smallwood of Katahdin and Whitney Donovan of Ashland.

The boys’ game went to Team B, 110-98. Seven players hit for double figures in points for the winning squad as Alex Tuttle of Presque Isle scored 18, Travis Dyer of Presque Isle 17, Kenneth Tarr of Ashland 16, Travis Noyes of Fort Fairfield 13, Oliver Zubrick of PI 12, Curtis Picard of Wisdom 11 and Deejay Gendreau of Madawaska 10.

Others adding to the attack were Micah Goetsch of Houlton with six, Jacob Bacon of Easton with five and Cody Robinson of Southern Aroostook with two.

For Team A, Matt Till of Caribou was high scorer with 19 points, followed by Dylan Caldwell of Fort Fairfield with 18, Logan McLaughlin of Central Aroostook with 13, Jake Tidd of Hodgdon with 11 and Caleb Kelly of Central Aroostook with 10.

The other five players on the roster also scored, including Brandon Robinson of Katahdin and Roland Thibodeau of Caribou each with seven, Stephen St. Peter of Caribou with six, Josh Forsman of Limestone/MSSM with five and Connor Fitzpatrick of Washburn with two.

Donating their time for the event, whose proceeds went to the Aroostook League Scholarship Fund, were officials Scott Hunter, Frank Frost, Curt Anderson, Jeff Stephenson, John Stephenson and Mark Turner; as well as timer David Martin, announcer Richard Ezzy, scorekeeper Verna Johnson, ticket taker Lori Thibodeau and T-shirt coordinator Diana Locke.
