HOULTON — Students at Houlton High School had a busy day of fun-filled activities Friday, March 11 as part of the 2011 Winter Carnival.
Featuring a variety of games and activities designed to garner points for each school class. The winning class then earned the distinction of having one schoolboy and one schoolgirl crowned as the 2011 Winter Carnival King and Queen. This year’s winning class was the seniors, making Eddie Flint and Taylor Bailey the new king and queen.

The sophomore class finished second, followed by the freshmen and juniors.
Among the many activities held throughout the day were “Quiz Bowl,” in which each class selected four students to answer educational and pop culture questions; crab soccer; chocolate pie eating contests; basketball knock out; and multiple games based on the game show “Minute to Win It.”
On Thursday, March 10, a “Battle of the Bands” musical competition was held at the high school auditorium. The senior class won the evening’s competition with a rousing set of both hard rocking and mellow pop tunes.

Band rosters, and set lists for the evening were as follows:
Freshmen — Ryan Tribou, drums; Kayla Whitney, vocals; Phoenix Crocket, vocals, bass guitar; Elyjah Crockett, rhythm guitar, vocals; Alex York, lead guitar; and Stephen Phillips, bass guitar. The freshmen performed the songs “Purple Haze,” by Jimi Hendrix; “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay,” by Otis Redding; and “You’re Gonna Go Far Kid,” by The Offspring.
Sophomores — Taylor Forest, vocals, guitar; Maddi Good and Ashley McNinch, piano, vocals; Mallory Clayton, drums; Sarah Bouchard, vocals; and Ally Carmichael, vocals. The group performed the songs “Boston,” by Austustana and “Leave the Pieces,” by The Wreckers.

Juniors — Dustin Fitzpatrick, drums; Craig Goodall, bass guitar; Kaleb Miles, guitar; and Zacharia Harvey, vocals. The group perfomed “Holy Diver,” by Dio; “What I Got,” by Sublime; “Buried Alive,” by Avenged Sevenfold; and “Higher Ground,” by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Seniors — Tanner Caron, lead guitar; Zach Waite, guitar, vocals; Wyatt Jenkins, guitar, vocals; Marina DiMarco, rock violin; Tyler Swimm, bass guitar and keyboards; and Dylan Gard, drums. The group performed “Ants Marching,” by Dave Matthews Band; and “Voodoo Child,” by Jimi Hendrix. For their victory encore, the seniors played “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room,” by John Mayer.
