Hospital recognizes board- certified physicians

PRESQUE ISLE — Several of The Aroostook Medical Center’s (TAMC) physicians recently became board certified.

“Achieving board certification in a medical specialty is the culmination of years of hard work through medical school, residency and, in some cases, fellowship,” said Dr. Jay Reynolds, chief medical and operating officer for TAMC.

“Board-certified status occurs as the result of many years of study and sacrifice; it is the last major hurdle in a rigorous process that has taken dedicated individuals years to complete,” he said. “It demonstrates to our patients that our physicians are not only well-versed in their chosen field but also they are committed to lifelong learning of medical advancement and best practices.”

“When you choose a physician, you expect a highly-trained health care practitioner. A board-certified physician is a nationally-accredited expert in their field. They have exceeded national standards of excellence in health care and that leads to better care for patients,” he said. “We are thrilled that 93 percent of our physicians are board-certified and that number continues to rise.”

TAMC’s most recent board-certified physicians were described by their coworkers and peers in the following way:

• Dr. Puneet Bedi, board certified in internal medicine, is a joy to work with and is very kind and considerate of everyone, according to his staff. The little spare time he has is devoted to his ongoing research into urinary tract infection antimicrobial resistance patterns. Dr. Bedi enjoys staying current on the changing topics in internal medicine.

• Dr. Kina Hill-Francis, board certified in internal medicine, is very passionate about the practice of medicine and always excited to learn about medical advances. She believes in engaging and educating patients and their families on preventative measures that they can take to help them strive to stay healthy outside of the hospital setting.

• Dr. Beena Sattar, board certified in internal medicine, has been very warmly received by her co-workers and patients at North Street Healthcare. Her attention to detail, kindness and consideration are highly valued in primary care medicine. Dr. Sattar holds a degree in surgery as well as internal medicine, making her highly versatile in her field.
