CARIBOU — The Aroostook League Scholar-Athlete Banquet was held March 17 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
Athletes were nominated by their schools athletic administrator based on achievements in the classroom, in the athletic realm and on school citizenship. Each school could nominate one male and one female scholar-athlete.
Aroostook League Scholar-Athletes are: Gabe Schenck and Desiree Vargas, Greater Houlton Christian Academy; Jake Tidd and Amanda Ryan, Hodgdon; Gaige Flewelling and Taylor Bailey, Houlton; Kolby Gallagher, Brittany Fogarty, Katahdin; Anthony Diaferio and Shelby Hartin, Southern Aroostook; Kenneth Tarr and Whitney Donovan, Ashland; Caleb Kelly and Kristen Long, Central Aroostook; DJ Flynn and Jenna Selander, Caribou; Jacob Bacon and Sydney Trask, Easton; Kaitlyn Kinsey, Fort Fairfield; Alex Charette and Emily Bard, Fort Kent; Justin Thompson and Chelsea Leighton, Limestone; Jon Lee and Erin Dugal, Madawaska; Stephen Goulet and Lindsey Michaud, Presque Isle; Garik Theriault and Tonya Godin, Van Buren; Kyle Huston and Sarah Sjoberg, Washburn; and Curtis Picard and Krystal Paradis, Wisdom.
Madawaska’s Dugal and Katahdin’s Gallagher and Fogarty had their names randomly drawn and were the recipients of $250 scholarships, presented by the Aroostook League. All nominees received Aroostook Scholar-Athlete certificates.
Tracy Guerrette, head coach of the women’s team at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a former Wisdom High School and University of Maine basketball standout, was the guest speaker.
