April vacation pool hours

The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will have special general swim hours during the April school vacation week April 16-23.

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1-2:45 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 -8:45 p.m.

The pool will be closed Easter Sunday.

Basic Water Rescue course

A four-hour Basic Water Rescue course, to be held Tuesday, April 12 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool, is targeted for public safety personnel (police, fire, EMTs), parents, aquatic fitness instructors, aquatic therapists, child care providers, physical therapy assistants, personal fitness trainers, coaches, athletic trainers and others who work around water.

The state requires this class for all day care providers if they have a wading pool or take their day care kids anywhere near water.

This course provides individuals with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. It will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others.

The course does not provide participants with all the information and skills needed to be certified as a lifeguard. There is no prerequisite for the class, but because there is an in-water skills session, it is recommended that participants be comfortable in chest deep water. To receive a certificate you must attend and participate in all course sessions and successfully perform all required skills; and pass the final written exam with a score of 80 percent or better (20 correct answers out of 25 questions). The Basic Water Rescue certificate is valid for three years.

The cost of the class is $25. Contact the indoor pool for more information at 764-2564.
