Dixie Shaw from Catholic Charities, at left in both pictures by a full shopping cart of food, was on hand at Washburn Elementary School recently to pick up items students collected for the nonprofit.
The school collected 715 food items during its celebration of National Go Red Day.
The photos show the school winners after being selected in drawing:
Mrs. Langille’s 1st-grade class,
Mr. Tompkins’s 4th-grade students, as well as
Mrs. Churchill’s 7th-grade class who collected the most food items, totaling 85.
Wade selectmen meet
Wade Selectmen Dwayne Dow, Donna Turner and Freeman R. Corey met on Monday, April 4. Discussed was the offer made by the selectmen on a local building for use as a garage. The offer was accepted. Options for an addition or free-standing building for use as a Town Office will be obtained. Once a final purchase and building price is established, options for financial support will be explored. The issue will then be taken for a vote by the town on a final decision.
Others items discussed include bidding on a newer used truck that the State has for sale, tax-acquired properties — most of which will be put out for bid — and the Arthur Howe wood lot. The $50,000 tax anticipation note has been signed, which will allow the town to provide services until other monies are collected.
