Members of the  Caribou Public Library Book Discussion Group recently held a ‘Chocolat Review,’ as they shared their thoughts on the book of the month, “Chocolat.” Participants include, Ellen Corrow, Claire Randolph, Carolyn Reschke, Wendy Bossie, Rosemary Hede, Karen and Don Colburn, Dee Deschaine, Kathryn Olmstead and Betty Rinehart.

“Chocolat” penned by Joann Harris, is the fable of Vianne Rocher and her daughter who settle into the southern part of France near Toulouse and proceed to create wonderful chocolate items (from a recipe passed on by her mother) that the citizens of the town can’t quite resist. Considered  a light-hearted fable underlined with a bit of romance, the reader (or viewer) gets caught up in the lives of the somewhat quirky cast of characters whose lives are touched usually in a most positive way, by the curious effect of Rocher and her  chocolat.

The local book group, facilitated by member Betty Rinehart, not only reviewed the book “Chocolat” but  also enjoyed the chocolate comfort food via an assortment of homemade chocolate fudge and other temptations during their discussion.

Members of the Book Discussion Group meet to share their observations, questions, likes and dislikes of the  monthly book selection on the second Wednesday of the month, from 3:15 -4:15 p.m. Some members prefer to view a movie edition of the title or listen to  an audio version; while some may read the book then watch the movie, which is usually somewhat different, bringing about more conversation and discussion.

The avid book enthusiasts are currently reading Murder on the Orient Express, which they will review when they meet in May.

Other titles the Book Discussion Group have completed include: “To Kill a Mockingbird,”  “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,”  “All’s Quiet on the Western Front,” “A Town Like Alice,” “Angela’s Ashes,” “The Old Man and the Sea,” and  “The Shipping News.”
