Runners compete in Boston Marathon

BOSTON — Robert Gomez, a former Maine School of Science and Mathematics student in Limestone who ran for the Eagle cross country team a decade ago, posted the fastest time among Maine runners in the Boston Marathon held April 18.

The Waldoboro native and current Saco resident covered the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Copley Square in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 18 seconds.

Gomez, 27, started with the elite runners and place 38th overall. He was the 18th finisher from the United States.

Portage Lake resident Richard Hoppe, 56, finished in 3:34.4 – 237th in his age division and 9,025th overall.

Masardis native Richard Lyons, 58, a longtime educator who spent time in the Washburn and Presque Isle school systems and now is the superintendent of schools in Hampden, came in at 3:37.17, good for 268th in his division and 9,760th overall.

Fort Kent resident Donald Audibert, 57, clocked the course in 3:48:07, which was 12,856th overall and 480th in his racing division.

Teresa Robinson of Goffstown, N.H., who resided in Presque Isle in the 1980s and who ran the race in honor of Caleb Derosier, finished the race in 4:27:06. Caleb, a 14-month-old who is suffering a rare form of leukemia, is the grandson of Jim and Twink Derosier of Presque Isle.
