Jeffrey L. Shaw
The Presque Isle Police Department received several calls around 8:55 a.m. April 30 reporting a small black car was operating erratically all over the city. Callers reported the vehicle was all over the road and jumping curbs, according to the police log. The car was initially reported to be on the west side of town, in the area of Caron Street, where a resident indicated it had traveled across their front lawn.
Officer Larry Fickett was assigned and eventually located the car on Caron Street, later determined to be operated by Jeffrey L. Shaw, 39, of Presque Isle. When the vehicle operator failed to stop for Fickett, a pursuit ensued. Shaw led police from Dobson Street, to Verone, Harris, Dyer, Park and Allen streets, coming to a stop finally on Griffin Street, not far from Zippel Elementary School.
“The vehicle stalled from damage it received due to reckless operation,” said Fickett.
Fickett subsequently arrested Shaw, charging him with: trafficking in schedule W drugs — cocaine; operating under the influence; eluding an officer; driving to endanger; and criminal mischief. Shaw was also charged with numerous traffic infractions and was unable to post bail. He was transported to the Caribou Police Department, where is currently being held on $2,000 cash/$10,000 surety bail. Fickett was assisted by Sgts. Eric Erickson and Laurie Kelly, PIPD; and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Jerry’s Towing was called to tow the vehicle.
Shaw has been given a Caribou Superior Court date of July 21, 2011.
