    McLaughlin, Frederick A., 81, May 3, 2011.  Arrangements by Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, Springvale.  Interment held in the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Springvale.
American Flag Color    SANFORD – Frederick A. McLaughlin, 81, of Springvale, Maine died on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the H.D Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
    Fred was born in Limestone on June 18, 1929 and grew up in Houlton where he attended local schools. Following high school, he attended the University of Maine and Ricker College where he received his teaching degree. When he finished college, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1952 until 1972 when he retired. After retiring from the military, Fred worked for the Tram Corporation in Winnisquam, NH for eight years and then worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he was employed for 12 years.
    Fred enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He liked traveling and taking trips with his family and he was a member of the Masons. He was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time at home with his family. He was an animal lover and was particularly fond of his cat. Fred will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
    Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Shirley McLaughlin of Springvale; two daughters, Cynthia Cannuli and her husband, Michael, of Portsmouth, NH and Diane Bomil and her husband, Stephen, of Tilton, NH; three granddaughters, Jessica, Danielle and Angela and four great-grandsons, Ethan, Colby, Avery and Randy.
    A funeral service was held at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 10th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.  Interment followed at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.
