New police chief offers some common sense tips
IN THE CITY
by Matthew J. Irwin
As the “new guy” in town, I was a bit concerned about writing an article that would provide all of you Presque Isle “lifers” with a variety of tips and guidance about this community … I mean really, what do I know that you don’t?!
So, I thought I would just stick with common sense issues we should all be mindful of this time of year.
1. Remember to remove your studded tires.
2. Moose and bear are big and slow; cars and motorcycles have “get up and go.” Please drive sensibly.
3. Prom and summer break are around the corner, please reinforce responsibility with our teenagers concerning their social events this time of year.
4. I have found many turkeys on the local roadways during my recent travels and I don’t mean my loud neighbors…I’m talking about the kind with feathers. Again please be careful!
5. ATV riders, please be respectful of your friends, neighbors, and the law.
6. Please use alcohol responsibly; don’t be the one at the next party everyone is talking about!
7. Remember to get your burn permits from the fire department.
8. Take the time to clean out your medicine cabinet and bring your unneeded medications to the police department so we can dispose of them properly.
9. There are a variety of charitable organizations in The County who need “stuff” to help with their mission, keep them in mind as you (or your kids) bust through your spring-cleaning.
10. As a follow-up to number 9 … kids, it’s not child abuse when your parents make you work around the house. These parental directives help you to build character and responsibility; your parents do not make you do chores just because they are sadists … well, maybe a little but they deserve some fun too.
In conclusion and in all seriousness, I am proud to be here and look forward to a great summer season. Please be safe in all that you do.
P.S. — Congrats to the Class of 2011 and to the lady at Bradley’s Citgo on that very snowy Friday (you know who you are) … No, I do not wish I were still in Florida.
