Last home match May 25
The Houlton High School boys varsity tennis team lost its first match to Presque Isle on Monday at Community Park in Houlton. The Shires are 6-1, while the Wildcats improve to 5-1.
In singles, Presque Isle winners were Caleb Mathers over Zach Harvey (score unavailable); Connor Shaw defeated Lucas Anderson, 8-6, with Houlton’s Tyler Delano picking up a 9-7 win over Emerson Castro.
The Wildcats swept doubles action with Osman Castro/Brock Cassidy overtaking Cody Woods/Craig Thomas, 8-2 and Mike Picard/Liam Hughes defeated D.J. McGary/Avery Kibler, 8-2.
On the girls’ side, Houlton was defeated 5-0 by Presque Isle.
“We had an injury the first match we played at PVHS,” said Houlton coach Jean Maunder. “Because of that, we had to forfeit at least one of the five matches since. We only had seven players to begin, so at least we have a team at a time when a lot of smaller schools have dropped tennis.”
In singles, Lady Wildcat winners were: Dani Wolland over Chelsea Fitzpatrick, 8-4; Divya Bisht over Megan Gerath, 8-1 and Lindsay Michaud over Daisy Torres, 8-0.
In doubles, Elise Jones/Melissa Carson defeated Courtney Bragan/Lizzy Garcia, 8-1, while Kayla Girardin/Chelsey Carroll won by forfeit.
The last home match for Houlton will be May 25 when it will host Caribou.
