Local teams hit diamond

    Rain last week slowed down the schedule of high school baseball and softball games. Results from games played from Tuesday, May 3 through Monday, May 9 are as follows:
    On Monday in Dyer Brook, Rochelle Sirois pitched a five-hitter, striking out eight and walking three as the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors shutout Hodgdon, 9-0.
    The Lady Warriors are 2-4, while the Hodgdon girls slip to 0-5.
    Leading the offense for Southern Aroostook was Kaitlyn Sommers with a double and single to drive in two runs, while Katie Goodall doubled and singled to bring in a run and Olivia Raymond singled and plated a run.

    For Hodgdon, Haley Quint, Amanda Ryan, Maya Gardiner, Julie Neher and Mackenzie York all singled.
    On the baseball diamond, the Hawks had cut into SACS lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth, but Jesse Boulier’s two-run single in the bottom of the frame lifted the Warriors to a 4-1 victory.
    Trent Cullinan delivered a run-scoring single in the bottom of the second to give SACS (4-1) its lead.
    Pat Goodall allowed one run, while striking out eight to pick up the win.
    For Hodgdon, Erik Ryan had two singles and Tyler Sherman connected for an RBI-single in the fourth for the 2-4 Hawks.
    In Mars Hill on Monday, the Lady Panthers (4-1) doubled East Grand’s scoring output for a 14-7 victory.
    The Lady Vikings were held scoreless for the first four innings, falling behind early.
    Vickie McIntyre smacked a bases-loaded triple, while Kristen Long and Jessica Malo each singled and doubled. Racheal Grew and Page Fletcher each had two singles and an RBI. Long also drove in a run for the winners.
    For East Grand, 3-2, Elisha Farley had two singles, while Kaitlyn Beaudoin doubled and drove in two runs.
    The East Grand Vikings were at home hosting the Greater Houlton Christian Academy boys in a doubleheader. Each team picked up a win, as the Vikings took an 8-7 win in the opener, while the Eagles overpowered East Grand in the second game, 13-3.

    In the first game, the score was tied in the sixth inning after Billy Holmes delivered a two-run double an Noble followed with the game-winning run-scoring single. Holmes finished the game with a double and single for two RBIs, while Logan Crane singled twice and scored twice.
    Ryan Campbell led GHCA with a triple, two singles and three runs scored.
    The Eagles (3-3) scored runs in every inning of the second game, as Ethan Holmes led the way with a single and two RBIs, while Josh Winslow singled and drove in a run.
    James Barry had two singles and two RBIs, while Neil Noble singled, drove in a run and scored for the 2-4 Vikings.
    At Howland, the Houlton Lady Shires were blanked 3-0 by PVHS, which scored all their runs in the bottom of the second.
    Taylor Bailey and Marina Cameron each singled for 0-7 Houlton.
    The Shiretowners were edged by PVHS, 5-4 in their extra-innings game.
    At the end of seven, the game was tied at 3-all, with each team scoreless in the eighth. But, in the ninth inning. PVHS drove in its winning runs with two outs on a throwing error by Houlton. The Howlers took the lead in the third when Eddie Cobb drilled a three-run homer for the 7-1 Howlers.

    For Houlton, Parker Sanderson doubled and singled and scored three times, while Ben Flewelling drove in a run, as the Shires slip to 3-4.
    The Hodgdon Hawks were held scoreless over the last four innings, as host Central Aroostook took a 14-10 win last Friday.
    Brendan York (double) slapped a two-out grand slam to right-center field to cap off the comeback for the Panthers. Dan Brewer singled twice, while Logan McLaughlin doubled and singled for the winners.
    For Hodgdon, Erik Ryan and Ryan Wellington each doubled and scored two runs, while Josh Hudson doubled and scored.
    In girls’ action, the Lady Hawks fell behind early taking a 27-4 loss to host Central Aroostook.

sp-ShireBB-dc6-pt-19READY — Houlton’s Hunter Hanning is ready to catch the ball on a pick off attempt at third base last Friday against Stearns. The Shires are the 10th seed in Class C as of the latest Heal Point standings, with a 3-4 record.

    Michaela King tripled twice, singled twice and drove in six runs for the Lady Panthers. Long, 4-for-4, with all singles to bring in three runs. Fletcher doubled and singled for four RBIs, while McIntyre doubled and singled to plate three runs. Whitney Klein doubled and singled for two RBIs for the winners.
    For Hodgdon, Maya Gardiner tripled, doubled and drove in three runs, while Kia Levesque had two singles. The Lady Hawks trailed 16-4 after three innings and then CAHS finished their scoring in the bottom of the fourth with an 11-run inning.
    The Houlton Shiretowners took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Tanner Caron’s pinch-hit two-run double with no one out brought in the tying and winning runs on Friday. The Shires added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth as Doug Dickison stroked a pinch-hit two-runs single. Parker Sanderson singled twice for the winners, while Ian Gervais threw a five-hitter.
    The Lady Shires suffered a two-hit shutout to visiting Stearns, 12-0, as the Minutemen outhit Houlton, 15-2.
    Megan Hannigan and Taylor Bailey each singled for 0-6 Houlton.
    Last Tuesday, the Lady Shires were narrowly defeated by host Presque Isle, 8-7, as a throwing error allowed Karlee Bernier to score the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.
    Abby Kinens doubled and singled for two RBIs for Houlton.

    On the baseball diamond, the Houlton boys watched a 7-2 lead dissolve when host Presque Isle erupted for a 10-run sixth to take a 12-9 win. Presque Isle’s Jake Player hit a two-run double to tie the game and Evan Waddell hit a game-winning single, along with Saul Nunez’s suicide bunt for the insurance run.
    For Houlton, Matt Birmingham doubled and singled, while Gervais hit a three-run triple. Chris Anderson was reached in the fifth by Isaac Lajoie’s two-run double to break up Anderson’s no-hitter. Anderson finished the game with a triple.
    The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors edged host Ashland, 8-6 last Tuesday.
    Rachel Sirois led SACS by striking out 10 batters, while walking seven and allowing four hits. Shelby Hartin backed Sirois with a double and single for two RBIs. Jessica Charette and Desirae Dubois each added two singles, while Jasmine Rockwell belted an RBI-double.
    The Lady Warriors outhit Ashland, 10-1.
    In boys’ action, the SACS Warriors overpowered host Ashland, 14-3 last Tuesday.
    Pat Goodall led the way with three singles, three RBIs, while scoring four runs for the Warriors. Dylan Porter doubled and singled to drive in a run for the winners.
    Last Tuesday, the Greater Houlton Christian Academy Eagles swept Washburn in a double header, 18-14 and 19-4.
    In the opener, GHCA broke a 5-all tie in the bottom of the second by scoring four runs and continued to scored in the next three innings to outlast Washburn, 18-14.
    Ryan Campbell paced GHCA with a double, single and three RBIs, while Ethan Holmes doubled twice and drove in a run, while Josh Winslow poked three singles and scored twice.
    In the second game, the Eagles trailed 4-3 until they rallied for a 16-run fourth behind Holmes and Adam Little’s two-run doubles. Holmes finished with two doubles, a single and three RBIs, while Campbell and Deyrell Vargas each doubled and singled. Vargas struck out 11, walked six and allowed only three hits in the abbreviated five-inning game.
