It was a quiet week for the Caribou tennis teams, whose schedule was affected by last week’s rainy weather.
The Vikes were only able to get one match in, and that was held last Wednesday at Madawaska’s indoor facility. Both Caribou teams scored 5-0 decisions, with the Viking girls improving to 3-1 with the win and the boys team evening its record at 2-2.
In girls’ play, Jenna Selander blanked the Owls’ Emily Collins, 8-0, whiel Laura Collins bested Meagan Ouellette, 8-2, and Carlee Pinette topped Sarah Ringuette, 8-1, in the other singles matches.
In doubles, Katie Keaton and Ashley Richards combined forces for an 8-0 triumph over Madawaska’s Lindsey Lavoie and Roxie Pelletier, while Alexa Massey and Aly Michaud were too much for Rikki Demoranville and Natalie Cyr as the Caribou duo posted an 8-0 win.
The Caribou boys came out on top behind wins in singles by Ezra Duplissie-Cyr, who beat Matt Deschenes, 8-2; Matt Cody, who stopped Ian Lee, 8-5; and Phil Smith, an 8-2 winner over Jake Gendreau..
The Vikings also had their way in doubles, with Lucien Caverhill and Tyler Willey beating Greg Saucher and Jesse Pelletier by a score of 8-3, and Zac Gorence and Cameron Hill shutting out Aaron Thibeault and Michael Wong, 8-0.
Caribou has some more regular season matches coming up this week, beginning with a match against Presque Isle which had been scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to rain. The Vikings will host the Regional Singles Qualifying Tournament Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. The top five players in both the girls and boys divisions will advance to the state tournament to be held later this month.
