Credit unions search for spokesperson
Maine’s credit unions recently announced they have launched a search for a creative, tech-savvy individual to represent Generation Y (ages 18 to 25) as the “Spokester” (spokesperson) for their new Young & Free Maine program.
Connecting with young people through social media networks, local events and more, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will develop entertaining educational content, tips and tools to help members of Generation Y manage their day-to-day lives and finances.
From April 18 through May 16, creative people between the ages of 18 and 25 are invited to apply for the “ultimate job” as the Young & Free Maine Spokester.
The winner must showcase an ability to relate to Generation Y while demonstrating his/her creative tech-savvy. To enter, applicants must submit a 60-second YouTube video and write a blog post that demonstrates their writing, editing and creative skills. The videos and blog posts will be posted at www.YoungFreeMaine.com.
Maine’s credit unions will narrow the submissions down to three finalists. The winner will then be selected by an online vote.
“The Young & Free Maine Spokester opportunity allows applicants to show off their creativity, technology skills and ability to connect with their peers in a humorous yet informative way,” John Murphy, president/CEO of Maine Credit Union League, said. “We need someone who’s creative, energetic and outgoing, someone who can use social media to connect with their peers, get involved in the community and get conversations started — someone who can share all that Maine’s credit unions have to offer this generation.”
“This ‘job’ is open to all Maine Gen Ys and I’m enthusiastic in the possibility of showcasing one of our own Aroostook County Spokester,” added Denise Cote, marketing director of NorState FCU. “It would be a wonderful opportunity for a ‘northern Mainer’ to be in the spotlight and showcased throughout Maine. It is a wonderful employment opportunity and fun as well.”
Upon selection, the Young & Free Maine Spokester will fill a one-year contract with salary and will participate in events throughout the year, write daily blog entries and post weekly videos to the YoungFreeMaine.com website.
A job opportunity loaded with perks, the winner will also receive a smart phone with a paid contract for the year, an Apple laptop and digital video camera, which the Spokester will be able to keep at the end of his/her term.
The Spokester will also have use of the Young & Free Maine vehicle.
The search for the Young & Free Spokester is part of a greater initiative for 18- to 25-year-olds called “Young & Free Maine.” It includes a financial head start with a new account called the Free4ME account, designed with 18- to 25-year-olds in mind.
Maine is the only New England state to offer this program, which has proven successful in connecting with Gen Y in regions throughout North America.
For more information, visit www.YoungFreeMaine.com. Online voting commenced on May 20 and runs until June 6. The winner will be announced by June 17.
NorState Federal Credit Union, along with other Maine participating credit unions, encourages its Gen Y members to visit the Young and Free Maine website for a list of participating credit unions.
