Did you ever wonder what month Noah launched his ark? It must have been in May — with all the wind in the northeast as it has been here in northern Maine all spring.
While golf carts are sitting forlornly, some brave players are slogging their way around and Harriet Gray and Club Champion Linda Holmes are grooming a flower bed near the 18th green, while David Grant is helping only in giving advice.
We aging cart riders only are longing for days of my favorite song — George Gershwin’s nostalgic “Summertime.”
Oh well, at last the sun comes out and, as it must have been for Noah to unload, we will have some event to enjoy like this weekend’s Shamble, Ladies’ League team play and Men’s Twilight League action. Sign up now and put away your umbrellas. Even the Red Sox play in the rain.
Sometimes a moment happens that makes long memories. While driving past the practice driving range, I noticed a young lady and her son of about 8 or 9 years hitting balls off one of the tees. I stopped and watched, offering a bit of advice. When the little guy made good contact, the joy and pride of his mother was a pleasure to behold. They both will remember this as long as they live. I have no idea who they were, but all of you mothers must know how they felt.
Golf is a great game, and you ladies should remember this Thursday is a fine opportunity to find out more at the Ladies’ League opening banquet at the Horn of Plenty.
