The recent Tim Sample show hosted by the Ashland Rotary Club, in support of Northwood Manor, a non-profit adult family care home in Ashland, brought a lot of laughter and fun to the area.
Sample entertained the audience with his downeast accent and tales of Maine’s most memorable characters; all of whom were based on actual people Sample has known. His yarns were a blend of vivid descriptions and humorous anecdotes, leaving the audience nodding their heads in laughter recognizing their own neighbors, and sometimes themselves, in his stories.
The fund-raising event was the pet project of the Ashland Rotary Club’s community fund-raising project in an effort to support Northwood Manor’s need for an air conditioning unit within the facility. While northern Maine is not typically a tropical environment, it can get rather warm and humid during the summer months. The elderly are prone to having heat-related health issues. An air conditioning unit is needed to make it temperately comfortable for the residents.
The residents, board of directors and the staff of Northwood Manor would like to thank the Ashland Rotary Club and its members — their neighbors and friends — for their friendship and support over the years.
“The Ashland Rotary Club has been a friend of ours for years, supporting various programs and purchases and this is yet another example of their dedication to their community and its people … helping out where they are needed without being asked,” said Northwood Manor Activities Coordinator Jennifer Durand. Undeniably, the Rotary Club International is a valuable organization throughout the world helping citizens in need. Lucky for Ashland, we have a club and members right in our own town.
Though the event did not raise all of the needed funds to purchase the unit, the club and the facility are inspired to continue fundraising until their goal is met.
