Latest MDIFW magazine now available online

AUGUSTA — Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s efforts to manage the state’s deer population through science, public policy and conservation law enforcement are the focus of the latest online edition of Maine Fish & Wildlife magazine.

The online magazine is available in pdf or text versions, or using the FlipSeek version, which makes the online publication appear like a printed periodical.  This allows the reader to flip through the pages and zoom into the text.

As stewards of Maine’s natural resources, the employees at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife work on endeavors that are essential to preserving and protecting the state’s quality of life and its economic foundation. Outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, boating, ATV riding, and wildlife and bird watching contribute $2.4 billion annually to Maine’s economy.

Wildcat Basketball Camp

The Presque Isle girls and boys basketball staffs are offering their 20th annual basketball clinic for interested students in the SAD 1 district.

All boys and girls entering grades 3-8 for the 2011-12 school year are invited to attend. The camp is open to both experienced players as well as those with no basketball experience.

Jeff Hudson, Presque Isle girls varsity coach, will run the clinic and will be assisted by present and former coaches and players.

The camp will take place June 13-17 at the high school. Grades 3-5 will play from 5-6:45 p.m. and grades 6-8 from 7-8:45 p.m.

Fundamentals in all phases of basketball will be stressed. There will be drills, individual games and regular games. There will be an emphasis on sportsmanship and having fun.

Race results from Spud Speedway

Spud Speedway racing results for June 5 were as follows:

In the Northern Lights division, Steve Levesque placed first in the 25-lap event, followed by Galen Morrow in second, Don Rideout in third, Dave Flemming in fourth, Thomas Everette in fifth and Shawn Dewley in sixth.

Brandon York beat out Derek Finnemore for the checkered flag in the 25-lap Hogan Tire Street Stocks. Carl Tucker was third and Ralph Levesque fourth.

The Clukey Auto Supply Fat 4s 25-lap race went to Keith Thibeau, Jr. He was followed consecutively by Rick Saucier, Connor Thibeau, Wayne Fox Jr., Jason Forbes, Roy Crawford, Paul Caron and Nate Haney.

The Coca-Cola Super Streets 50-lapper was captured by Dillon MacDougal, with Eric Argraves placing second and Mike Howlett third. Jason Levesque and Matt Farnham were both disqualified.

In the 150-lap bomber race, Bobby Anderson came out on top, with Adam Dionne placing second and Mark York in third. Geary Bonville and Roy Crawford were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Softball tournament

The ASA Class D district men’s slo-pitch softball tournament will be played June 17-19 in Caribou.     The top teams from this event will advance to the Class D state championships.
