Mars Hill native Jeffrey Devoe, Pvt., U.S. Army, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, was recently deployed to Afghanistan for an eight-month mission.
Jeff had a layover in Bangor before heading overseas, so his family headed south when they heard to see him off.

But I’ll bet there was a lot of joking and ribbing going on at home later!

Chasin’ the Chasses
A great time is being had by our adventurers. Donna and Dana Chasse have traveled many miles and seen a lot of beautiful places in the western U.S. Since leaving Glacier National Park in Montana, they have traveled south to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

SKYWALK — Donna Chasse threatened to push Dana off the Skywalk over the Grand Canyon for teasing her — but decided to keep him around. She’d much rather ride and take pictures than have to drive the bike!
They enjoyed two days in Yellowstone, visiting many parts of the park, including Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful. They have seen several types of wildlife, from mountain sheep and buffalo to a grizzly bear that was close enough to photograph — but far enough away to be safe from.
They traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyo., on the 4th of July and were treated to a beautiful fireworks display right outside their motel! What service!
They have also seen some beautiful mountains, canyons and fabulous natural formations as they traveled through Utah, Idaho and into Arizona. They have visited the Arches , Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park during their travels.
They spent Friday night at a motel on the famed Route 66 in Arizona, and Donna braved the traffic by standing in the middle of the road for a photo op! You have to wonder if Dana would bail her out if she got arrested for jaywalking!

ROUTE 66 — Donna Chasse braved the traffic in Arizona to snag a picture of the Route 66 sign painted in the middle of the road. Donna and Dana are enjoying their U.S. adventure road trip. It will be interesting to see where they head next!
They took a special six-hour tour at the Grand Canyon and actually walked on the new Skywalk. The special U-shaped walkway extends out over the canyon. The skywalk has a clear floor and you can look straight down into the depths of the canyon. Not a walk for the faint of heart!
