The Northern Maine Motor Society will hold a “Fallen Heroes Cruise” Saturday, July 16, as classic car buffs from Houlton to Madawaska try to raise money for the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
For a $5 minimum donation, cruisers can show off their hot rods as the group gathers at the Houlton Irving Big Stop at 9:30 a.m. before traveling north on Route 1. The ride will stop in Mars Hill to let riders in that area join in before heading to Limestone to watch the Land Speed Races.
“I really wanted to do something to raise money for charities through motor sports events,” Miller said of the NMMS. “We focus on the motorcycle hobbyists, car buffs and racers. I’m expecting quite a crowd for this cruise. We’ve had numerous confirmations already.”
All motor vehicles, whether they are cars, trucks or motorcycles are welcome to join the ride. The event was originally slated to go as far north as Madawaska, before returning to Caribou, but the high price of gasoline has altered those plans.
Instead, car buffs from Madawaska will travel south and meet up with their counterparts at the Land Speed Races in Limestone, before caravanning to Caribou at about 3:30 p.m. Miller added that the cruisers would be given free admission to the event in Limestone. Riders also do not have to complete the full loop to participate.
All of the proceeds raised from the cruise will go to the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Businesses may also sponsor cars for the event. For more information, call Miller at 532-6577.
