Beekeeping field day set for Saturday

The Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a beekeeping field day on Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Steve and Bernadette Farrar’s, 523 Callaghan Road in Houlton.
The field day will be led by Lincoln Sennett, owner of Swan’s Honey in Albion. Sennett has been the owner of Swan’s Honey for nine years and a beekeeper for over 30 years. He currently has summer hives in Aroostook County. He will focus on summer management; hive health; assessing Varroa mite populations; and treatment options.
Evaluation of queen performance, brood health, and fall management for winter preparations will also be discussed. A bring-your-own bagged lunch will provide time for questions and answers. Drinks will be provided. The workshop is free but pre-registration is greatly appreciated. You may register by email at angela.wotton@me.nacdnet.net or phone at 532-2087, ext. 3.
