Family Fitness Day on Friday

CARIBOU — With “Healthy Living, Just the Beginning,” the theme for Caribou Cares About Kids Weekend,  the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department has joined forces with a variety of other providers to offer a Family Fitness Fair from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

The program will offer families tips on how to work together to stay fit. Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Kathy Mazzuchelli indicated that the goal of the event is to give moms and dads some creative ways to promote fitness for the whole family. “Many people assume that children are fit, when in fact sedentary lifestyles have diminished children’s fitness significantly,” said Mazzuchelli,

She noted that many of the vendors will be demonstrating some activities that can be done and Parks and Recreation staff will be giving those in attendance the opportunity to try kayaking or canoeing at the Outdoor Community Pool, as well as an introduction to geocaching; a very popular activity with young and old alike. There will be Zumba workshops and other fun activities as well.

Mazzuchelli also noted that the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting farmers to display their wares to introduce families to fresh vegetables and provide information on how they can start their own gardens.

Any vendors or agencies that might like to display at the program should contact the Caribou Parks and Recreation office; there is no fee for attendees.

“Come ready to participate in activities and have some fun,” Mazzuchelli encouraged.
