Deschene earns degree

The University of New England awarded a master of science degree in education (concentration in educational leadership) to Benjamin Deschene on July 7. He is the son of Susan and Calvin Deschene of Presque Isle. Benjamin is currently a teacher and coach at Marshwood High School in South Berwick.

Kaplan University graduates

CHICAGO, ILL. — Kaplan University, a leader in higher education innovation, celebrated the graduation of its summer 2011 class during a graduation ceremony on Aug. 6 at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago. During her address, former Secretary of Labor Alexis M. Herman spoke to the online graduates about the importance of education to workforce development and global competitiveness.

The following local students were awarded degrees: Denise Whitmore, of Ashland, was awarded an associate of applied science degree in health sciences; and Ashley Dyer, of Easton, was awarded a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Michaud graduates

LAMONI, IOWA —Nearly 3,000 alumni and friends of Graceland gathered in Lamoni, Iowa, to celebrate the school’s 114th Commencement Convocation. A total of 709 graduates this year represented 38 majors. There were 324 Master’s degrees and 400 Bachelor’s degrees conferred. The graduates hailed from 43 states and 15 countries. Stacey Michaud, of Presque Isle, was part of Graceland University’s Class of 2011.

UMF announces dean’s list

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington has announced its dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester. UMF maintains a dean’s list each semester for those students completing a minimum of 12 credits in courses producing quality points. Students whose grade-point average for the semester is equal to or greater than 3.8 are listed with high academic achievement. Students whose grade point average for the semester is less than 3.8 but equal to or greater than 3.5 are listed with academic achievement. Any incompletes must be satisfactorily completed before the student is honored with dean’s list status. Academic achievement awarded at commencement is based on all course work taken at UMF.

Local students making the list include: Presque Isle — Zachary Fowler, Jordyn Madore and Alexander Willette; Wade — Maurice White; and Washburn — Jada Molton.

USM dean’s list

The following full-time, in-state students have been named to the University of Southern Maine dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester. To be named, students must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or above and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Local students honored include: Chapman — Paige McEachern, and Eagle Lake — Sarah Dube.
