FREEPORT – Clayton George “Brownie” Brown, 80, of Fernald Road died Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was born January 23, 1931 in Portland, a son of Clayton and Evelyn Hewey Brown.
Clayton lived in Gorham for 43 years where he gardened, kept his bees and fruit trees and tinkered with any size engine. He enjoyed camping, gardening, cutting and splitting wood, and being a mechanic for the truck division at Oakhurst Dairy. Clayton enjoyed going to his camp (Camp Driki) on Kennebago River with his brother and friends hunting and fishing. In later years he enjoyed spending time at his son’s helping with yard work. He spent a lot of time at his son-in-law’s camp using horses to log the land used for building the camp. In the 60’s he helped to rebuild Grants Camps and helped keep the flow gates cleaned after winter at the Kennebago River Dam. He was married for 56 years to Rosalyn Dickson Brown.
Clayton was predeceased by a grand-daughter, Rose.
Besides his widow, survivors include his daughter, Linda C. Faucher and husband Yvon; sons, Alan C. Brown and wife Marie, and Dale G. Brown and wife Anna; siblings, Maynard, Marilyn and Hartson; grandchildren, Shawn, Christine, Daniel, Clayton, Amanda, and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Zackary, Allison, Jacob and Conan.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, August 23 at 1 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery, Groveville. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Elder Independence of Maine, P.O.
